The City of Dexter holds general municipal elections on a yearly basis.

• Even-numbered years - An election is held for the Mayor and for one alderman in each ward.  Those offices hold a two-year term. 
• Odd-numbered years - An election is held for one alderman in each ward. Those offices hold a two year term.

A general municipal election for the elective officers of the City is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April of each year.
